Opelousas- Funeral services for Robert Lee Stelly, age 81, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the LeJeune Family Cemetery, Mallet, La.

Fr. Paul Bienvenu will celebrate the Mass of Christian burial.

Mr. Stelly was born in and was a life long resident of Opelousas. He worked for the U.S. Postal service as a truck driver for 19 years and then went to work for the St. Landry Sheriffs Department under Sheriff Howard Zerangue until his retirement. Mr. Robert loved his family and friends and is going to be missed by all that knew him.

Mourning his death yet cherishing his memories are his children: one son, James Stelly and wife Krista of Swords, La., daughters, Denise Gremillion and husband Brent of Prairie Ronde, La., Sheryl Gautreaux and husband Merrick, Jr.; sisters, Gladys Carrier of Port Barre, Flo Fontenot of Opelousas; seven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife Rena LeJeune Stelly; parents, Edwin and Caroline Robin Stelly; brothers, Wilfred Stelly, Joseph Stelly, Irvin Stelly; sister, Edmay Bertrand.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, July 6, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. And will reopen on Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. until time of services.

Rosary service will be conducted 7:00 p.m. on Monday night.
