Robert Bihm

Opelousas Funeral Services for Mr. Robert Louis Bihm, age 90, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 8, 2014, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Bihm Cemetery in Waxia, LA. Fr. Austin Leger will conduct the services.

Robert was a long time resident of Opelousas. He passed away at TriCommunity Nursing Home in Palmetto on Saturday, December 6, 2014. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre.

He was a Veteran of United States Army, Private First Class, 2nd Infantry Division. He served during World War II, wounded twice and received the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star, Good Conduct and Rifle Marksman Medal. Mr. Bihm was owner of Robert L. Bihm Contractors for 17 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, V. F. W. and Disabled Veterans. He was a devoted husband, and caring father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mary Hazel Bellard Bihm of Opelousas his son, Steven Bihm and wife, Susan of Opelousas his daughter, Cheryl Bihm Myers of Opelousas his sister, Birdie Bihm Lewis of Opelousas four grandchildren, six greatgrandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Preceded in death by his mother, Lelia Carriere Bihm his father, Burice C. Bihm, his sister, Lucille Bihm Tomlinson and his soninlaw, Jimmie Myers.

Pallbearers will be Steven Bihm, Mike Bihm, Jeremy Myers, Ronald Carriere, Leonce Bellard, Jr., and Elvie Zerangue, Jr.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Sunday, December 7, 2014, beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. The funeral home will reopen on Monday at 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A Rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday evening in the funeral home.
