Opelousas- Funeral services for Richard Michael Lopez, age 53, will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Rev. Msgr. Keith J. DeRouen will celebrate the Mass.
Ricky was born and raised in Opelousas. He graduated from Opelousas Catholic before attending and graduating from LSU. After graduation, he received his commission in the U. S. Army where he served for the next four years, attaining the rank of Captain. During this time, he received a Masters Degree in Business Administration. On leaving the Army, he and his then wife worked for Wal-Mart Corporation in Bentonville, Arkansas.
After a number of years, he returned home to start Worldlink Marketing, importing reproduction Sugar Kettles from Asia. On selling his interest in the company, he moved to New Orleans and for the next two years, was a student at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary until Hurricane Katrina destroyed the campus.
He was thereafter employed by the Veterans Hospital in Fayetteville, North Carolina, as a Transportation Supervisor.
He returned home only to move again shortly to Boynton Beach, Florida with Ms. Robin Eichel. It is at her home where he died suddenly on July 9, 2015.
He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth and his brothers and sisters, Edward, Al, Norma, and Dona, and by his special friend, Robin.
He was preceded in death by his father, Julius Lopez; and his mother, Rosa Mae Walters Lopez.
