Ray Stephens

Washington Funeral services for Ray Stephens, 70, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2006, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Father Nunez will conduct the services. Musical selections will be provided by Valerie Andrus.

Mr. Stephens was a native and life-long resident of Washington. He died at 7:50 a.m. on Thursday, December 7, 2006, in the Opelousas General Health System.

Mr. Ray was a brick layer for many years. He was a U. S. Army Veteran and an avid outdoorsman where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Mrs. Shirley Ortego Stephens of Washington; one son, Matthew Ray Stephens and wife, Stacy of Washington; one daughter, Annette Breaux and husband, Chad of Opelousas; one son-in-law, Ricky Wyble of Arnaudville; two brothers: Clarence Stephens and J. P. Stephens, both of Opelousas; one sister, Evelyn Lucas of Opelousas; six grandchildren: Anson Ardoin and Heidi Ardoin, both of Opelousas; Abbey Lanclos and husband, C.J. of Pecaniere; Aaron Wyble and Adam Wyble, both of Arnaudville; and Bailey Stephens of Washington; and three great grandchildren: Breah Lafleur of Opelousas; Allie Lanclos and Tucker Lanclos, both of Pecaniere.

Mr. Stephens was preceded in death by one daughter, Stephanie Wyble; and his parents: Pierre Stephens and Laurance Phillips.

Visiting hours will be observed from 5 to 10 p.m. on Thursday in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Friday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home.
