Ray Allen Pitre

Opelousas- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Ray "Blackie" Allen Pitre, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Fr. Jude Thierry will officiate the Mass. Burial will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas.

During his younger years, Ray served in the Army during the Vietnam Era, showcasing his bravery and patriotism for his country. Ray Allen Pitre, a dedicated and hardworking man throughout his life, passed away on July 21, 2024 at Senior Village Nursing Home. Ray was born on August 29, 1939, in Prairie Ronde to his loving parents Nolan and Loycy Mae D. Pitre.

Ray led a fulfilling career as a Truck Driver, where he devoted 16 years of service to Red Ball Motor Fright and another 13 years to Yoo-hoo. His commitment and passion for his work were truly admirable.

Described by many as a loving and caring person, Ray was cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His warm personality left a lasting impact on those around him.

In his free time, Ray indulged in his hobbies of working on old engines and equipment, hunting, horseback riding, antique cars, and camping. These activities brought him joy and allowed him to showcase his skills and passion.

Ray leaves behind a legacy that will be forever remembered by his surviving family members: his devoted wife, Geneva Pitre; loving son, David Troy Pitre and fiancé Georgie Ellis Disotell of Opelousas; caring daughter, Melissa Ann Pitre Vidrine and her husband, Marshall of Eunice; daughter by heart, Katrina Brown and companion Michael Savoy of Opelousas; brothers-in-law, Glenn (Georgianna) Brown of Opelousas and Jay (Janice) Brown of Opelousas; sisters-in-law, Gloria (Roy) Olivier of Eunice, Ruth (Roy) Doucet of Arnaudville, and Charlene Brown; as well as his beloved grandchildren, Michael Pitre of Lafayette, Travis Coupel of Florida, and Brittney Coupe of Florida; great-grandchildren, Arianne Coupel and Asher Ray Boswell.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Nolan and Loycy Pitre; brothers, James Norris Pitre, Nolan Wayne Pitre; sister, Linda Sue Pitre; his in-laws, Joseph and Ozea Brown; nephew, Scotty Devillier; sister-in-law, Laura Devillier; brothers-in-law, Leroy Devillier and Leroy Brown; stepfather-in-law, Wilsey Noel.

Ray Allen Pitre will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him. May he rest in peace knowing that he touched the lives of many with his kindness and dedication.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be prayed at 6:30 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home chapel of Opelousas. On Wednesday, July 24, 2024 visitation will resume at 8:00 A.M. until time of service.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Brown, Carson Brown, Roy Olivier, Calvin Bellow, Paul Pitre, and Glenn Brown.
