Port Barre A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Ray Thibodeaux. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Mausoleum.
Fr. Dan Picard will celebrate the Mass.
Ray was a native of Opelousas and a resident of Port Barre. He passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at his home at the age of 79.
Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Audrey Callier Thibodeaux of Port Barre, his children, Randy Thibodeaux and his wife, Carrie of Spring, Texas Karen Benoit and her husband, Carlos, of Erwinville Pam McFarland and her husband, Robert of Wesson ,Mississippi and Brent Thibodeaux and his wife, Becky of Pecaniere, grandchildren: Jacob, Kristen, and Jessica Thibodeaux Jared Benoit and wife Candace Erin Benoit Verbeek and husband Clint Ashley and Koy McFarland and Brock Thibodeaux sister, Wilda Noel of Opelousas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Mary Lee Lavergne Thibodeaux and his inlaws, Wilsey and Elsie Callier.
Ray was the ideal example of living a Christian life, kind, loving, and generous. He loved camping, hunting, fishing, the outdoors, spending time at the lake but most of all he loved God and being surrounded by his family.
He was the owner of Thibodeauxs General Merchandise Store for 22 years and was branch manager of St. Landry Homestead for 22 years in Port Barre. He served in the Army National Guard for eight years. He also served as Port Barre Alderman for sixteen years, serving as Mayor Protem for twelve of those years and was a board member of the Greater Port of Krotz Springs and PB Fire District No. 2. He was a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus Council 3496, serving as District Deputy of District No. 29 for two years and two terms as Grand Knight. He was Assistant Chief for the PB Volunteer Fire Department, Director of the PB Park and Summer Recreation Department, and was a substitute rural postal carrier, as well as President of Black Powder Hunting Club. He volunteered and served diligently as an officer in several service organizations including Yambilee Campers and Port Barre Lions Club.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Amedisys Hospice caregivers Vickie Hearine and Keisha Williams, and special thanks to Guy and Renee Fontenot, Worlen and Rose Stoute, and Donnie and Cindy Perron for their loving care and support.
A rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home on Tuesday evening.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and will reopen on Wednesday morning at 8:00 a.m. until time of service at 10:30 a.m.
