Port BarreA Mass of Christian Burial for Ralph Jennings, Sr. will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 18, 2014, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre. Fr. Dan Picard will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Ralph was a longtime resident of Port Barre. He passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at Opelousas General Health System, at the age of 83.
He had a 40 year career in the Stockyard Industry working for K. Jennings Commission Barn, BrownsAlsbrook Commission Barn, and Gilbeau Kennedy Stockyards. He was also a Livestock Inspector with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture from 19791996. He always enjoyed gathering with his family at any gettogether. He loved the Jennings Family Reunions and was always the first one to arrive there to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed spending time outdoors especially on his swing each day while he drank his coffee.
He is survived by his children, Ralph Jennings, Jr. and his wife, Katrina of Port Barre and Debra Baham and her husband, Brad of Port Barre six grandchildren, Sheena Biba, Kurt Jennings, Brittany Baham, Kaitlyn Baham, Kristy Nolan, and Brad Nolan and six greatgrandchildren, Gabrielle Biba, Madison Jennings, Gavin Jennings, Davonte Gloston, Ethan Nolan, and Arianna Nolan brother, Frank Jennings and wife, Betty of Opelousas and sisters, Ethel Emonet of Opelousas and Evelyn McCormick of Baton Rouge.
We were so blessed to have you for our Dad and there are so many wonderful memories of you that will carry us through our darkest days. He has fulfilled his duty as a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Thank you Dad we love you and may you rest in peace. We know that you are now with our Mother.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Velma Aymond Jennings parents, John and Bessie Roy Jennings and two sisters, Anna Hollier and Cora Dekerlegand.
Pallbearers will be Ralph Jennings, Jr., Brad Baham, Ronnie Emonet, Terry Jennings, Kurt Jennings, Bobby Dekerlegand, and Randy Dekerlegand.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre on Sunday, August 17, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. On Monday, the funeral home will reopen at 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening in the funeral home.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of his caregivers for the countless hours of devotion given to Mr. Ralph during his illness. We will be forever grateful to all of you.
