Placide Moran

Port Barre A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre, LA, for Mr. Placide Moran, known to many as Papa. Rev. Fr. Daniel Picard will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in the St. Francis Regis Catholic Church Cemetery in Arnaudville, LA.

He was a native of Arnaudville and a lifelong resident of Port Barre. He died on Sunday, May 11, 2014, at the Senior Village Nursing Home of Opelousas at the age of 97. His career as a farmer provided for his family numerous great commodities and expressed his love for the land. He would enjoy camping and fishing as a pastime. He had a strong faith and was a devout Catholic and parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Port Barre. He was a past member of the Knights of Columbus, and the Holy Name Society.

He is survived by his wife of 77 years, Emily Marks Moran of Port Barre three sons, Rodney Moran and wife, Marie of Bridge City, TX Charles Moran and wife, Laura of Washington and Blaine Moran and wife, Monica of Opelousas daughter, Versie Hebert of Rayne six grandchildren, twelve greatgrandchildren, and seven greatgreatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Berchman Moran and Marie Kidder Moran two brothers, John Moran and Moise Moran five sisters, Beulah Quebedeaux, Regina Landry, Irma Stelly, Bella Marks, and Adella Quebedeaux three grandchildren, one greatgrandchild, and one greatgreatgrandchild.
The family expresses special thanks to the entire staff of Senior Village Nursing Home and Hospice Compassus.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, from 5:00 p.m.10:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home in Port Barre. A Rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening in the funeral home. On Wednesday, the funeral home will reopen at 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.
