Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Philip Raymond Lashute, Jr., age 76, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, in the St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at a later date in the Bellevue Memorial Park. Father James Brady will celebrate the Mass.
Philip was a native of Melville and longtime resident of Opelousas. He died on Sunday, March 2, 2014, at the Post Acute Medical Specialty Hospital of Lafayette. He was a graduate from AIC of Opelousas and ULL formerly known as SLI of Lafayette. He was a manager for over 47 years with the State of Louisiana Department of Labor. After his retirement, he worked with Rhyn Duplechain at the St. Landry Parish Tax Assessors Office for several years. He was active with the Louisiana National Guard. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Landry Catholic Church.
Pastime activities include being outdoors, fishing, and exercising. He was a people person and never met a stranger. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He enjoyed getting together with friends and family. He was a very loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Monelle Stelly Lashute of Opelousas one son, Philip Raymond Lashute III and wife, Felice of Carencro two daughters, Cherie Sikora and husband, Aaron of Maurice and Stacie Luby of Lafayette one brother, Ronnie Lashute and wife, Pat of Opelousas two sisters, Mrs. Dale Jolene Ortego of Beaumont, TX and Mrs. Joe Carol Frank of Natchez, MS four grandchildren, Abby Elder, Jennifer Harris, Aimee McCormick, and Randy McCormick and one greatgrandchild, Issac Harris.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Anne Lashute and his parents, Philip Raymond Lashute, Sr. and Mary Louise Diesi Lashute.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The rosary service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the Funeral Home.
