Pearl B. Lacombe
Port Barre- Funeral Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Pearl B. Lacombe, 93, will be celebrated on Thursday, March 19, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre with interment following in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Father Curtis Mallet, Mrs. Pearls great nephew, will celebrate the Mass. Music will be provided by Valerie Andrus.
She was a life-long resident of Port Barre and she died at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2009, in the Opelousas General Health System.
Mrs. Pearl was born in Ville Platte, the daughter of the late Marshall Barron and Mary Louise Soileau Barron. She was a homemaker and worked for over 17 years as a cook in the school cafeteria with the St. Landry Parish School Board.
She loved family gatherings and cooking for her family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling, going to the casino, and playing Bouree. She was a devoted wife, and a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
She is survived by children: J. Y. Lacombe, James Lee Lacombe and wife, Theresa; Jesse Doucet and husband, Narcisse; Dorothy Buford and husband, Gerald; Charlene Fontenot and husband, E. J.; all of Port Barre; son-in-law, George Viator of Port Barre; daughter-in-law, Joanna Robin and husband, Donald of Port Barre; brother, Delma Barron of Port Barre; sister, Bernice Lalonde of Port Barre; 21 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her father, Marshall Barron; her mother, Mary Louise Soileau Barron; step-mother, Matilda Soileau; her husband, Imay Lacombe; daughters: Wordna Viator; and Mary Louise Lacombe; son, Frank Lacombe; daughter-in-law, Myrtle Lacombe; grandson, Mitchell Lacombe; grandson-in-law, Terry Meche; granddaughters-in-law: Sally Lacombe and Judy Viator; and great-grandchild, Caleb James Robin.
Visitation will be at Sibille Funeral Home in Port Barre on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. On Thursday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8 a.m. until 1:30p.m.
A rosary will be recited by Mike and Betty Wheaton at 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening in the funeral home.
