Opelousas Funeral services for Mr. Otha Shelton Prather, age 67, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 30, 2010, in Sibille Funeral Home Chapel of Opelousas. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery of Opelousas. Rev. Perry Hubbs Pastor of First Baptist Church in Opelousas will conduct the service.
Shelton was born in Opelousas, grew up and lived most of his life in Washington, and was currently living in Carencro. He died on Saturday, August 28, 2010, at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette.
Shelton was a businessman owning a Service Station in Washington for many years. He and his wife, Enola were owners of Prudhommes Cajun Caf in Carencro.
Shelton lived his life as a true example of love. He enjoyed spending time visiting and barbcueing with his family and friends. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, and greatgrandfather. Some of his favorite hobbies were fishing, camping, gardening and working with ceramics. He made a difference in many peoples lives and will be greatly missed by everyone that loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Enola Prudhomme Prather of Carencro sons, Todd Prather of Fairhope, AL Howard Ray Dugas, Sr. of Cankton and Sonny Aymond of Carencro daughters, Dodie Prather of Baton Rouge Dianne Broussard of Lafayette Toni Traylor of Port Barre and Annette Aymond of Carencro brother, M.P. Prather of San Antonio, TX sisters, Aline Richey of Mt. Vernon, OH Mary Steinhouse of Montgomery, MN Madeline Coto of Barnwell, SC and Janie Tujague of Opelousas 15 grandchildren, 25 greatgrandchildren and 1 greatgreatgrandson.
He was preceded in death by parents, Mathew Paul Prather and Bena Clement Prather and one sister, Norma Prather Savage.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Howard Ray Dugas, Jr., Albert Ray Al Lanclos, Jr., Michael Scott Lanclos, Jason Lanclos, Christopher James C.J. Onclale, Beau Aymond, and Brady John Aymond.
Visiting hours were observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Sunday, August 29, 2010, from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. On Monday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
