Opelousas- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Orelia Semien at 11:00 am on Thursday July 5, 2018 at St Ann Catholic Church in Mallet, Louisiana. Rite of Committal follows at St Ann's Cemetery. Father Borgia Aubespin will be the celebrant of the Mass.
Mrs. Semien, age 85, passed away on June 29, 2018. Orelia was born in Pot Cove, Louisiana on October 6, 1932.
Orelia was a wife and homemaker, she loved to take care of her family, keeping a garden and cooking for her family. She loved to take care of others, giving eggs and vegetables to family and friends. Her care giving extended to working with the elderly in Eunice Nursing Home. She was blessed to be able to spend years actively involved with her youngest grandchildren Gabi and Matt and a loving influence on her other grandchildren Steven, Stephanie and Cathy. She was a lifetime member of St Ann's Catholic Church.
Survivors include her sons Donald Semien and wife Sandra of Lake Charles, LA; Ernie Semien and wife Pam of Spencer, WV; and daughter-in-law Jennifer Semien of Prairie Ronde, LA. She is survived by 5 grandchildren, Steven Semien, Stephanie Haack, Cathy Hernandez, Gabrielle Semien and Matthew Semien and 6 great-grandchildren, Kaylie Semien, Abby Semien, Connor Semien, Patience Haack, Adrian Hernandez and Grace Hernandez. She is survived by two sisters, Louise Fontenot and Elsie Patin; a sister-in-law, Alpha Rita Gobert and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to these family members, Orelia was blessed to have Glenda Singleton as a caregiver and friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melton Semien; son, Mark Semien; parents Willie and Marie Gobert; her brothers Clinin Gobert, Flinn Gobert, Robert Morris, Eldredge Gobert and her sisters Dorothy Miller and Alice Joubert.
Orelia will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Visitation will be at 8:00 a.m. with a rosary recited at 10:00 a.m. and the Mass at 11:00am all in St. Ann Catholic Church in Mallet.
