Opelousas- Funeral services for Mr. Norris Joseph Leger will be held at Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas. Deacon Dwayne Joubert will officiate the services.
Norris was born in Cankton, La., lived and worked in Opelousas for many years, and later retired to Scott, La. He died on Thursday, June 09, 2016, at Senior Village Retirement home at the age of 92. He worked for United Gas Company for some 40 years in Opelousas. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran who proudly served as Seaman First Class in the global theater of WWII. He sailed around the world several times, on six different Liberty Ships bringing munitions and supplies to soldiers fighting the war. He was a member of Our Lady of Mercy church, was a Boy Scouts of America troop master, and member of the Elks Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing cooking and camping. He was fondly known as ‘Doo' and will truly be sadly missed by family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred. They were married for 69 years. Also his children Ronald Leger and wife Jackie; Donald Leger and wife Vanita; Gerald Leger; Kenneth Leger; Andrew Leger and daughters Cathy Carriere and husband Roger; and Mary Richard and husband Scott. He has 14 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 8:00 am for family and 9:00 am for public on Saturday, June 11, 2016. A rosary for Norris will be recited at 1:30 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel.
