Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Nita Scranton Daly Bordelon, age 96, will be held at1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 12, 2012, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. Interment will follow in the St. Landry Cemetery and she will be buried next to her beloved husband, Mr. Joseph Yves J.Y. Bordelon, Sr. Father James Brady will celebrate the Mass. Her niece Dorothy Compton Bollich will read during the mass.
Mrs. Bordelon passed away peacefully surrounded by her Family on March 9, 2012, at her residence in Opelousas.
She was born on January 11, 1916, in Lafayette, LA. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Oliver Perry Daly, Jr. and the former Gertrude Scranton. She was also the granddaughter of two late 19th century pioneer physicians Dr. Oliver Perry Daly, Sr. and Dr. George W. Scranton of the Broussard area. Nita was a graduate of Lafayette High School and received her Physics degree from Newcomb College of Tulane University in New Orleans. She was also a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She was a lifelong resident of Opelousas, LA. For many years, she was involved in many activities throughout the community: Mothers Club President at AIC, Catholic Daughters, CoFounder of the Peoples Program of St. Landry Catholic Church where she taught art. She also enjoyed oil painting, traveling, and playing bridge. Known by her grandchildren as Ta, she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, greatgreatgrandmother, sister, and friend to all who knew her. She will be sadly missed by all.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Bordelon and wife, Frances of Opelousas and Dr. Joseph Yves J.Y. Bordelon, Jr. and wife, Cathy of Opelousas one daughter, Nita Ann Bordelon Veillon and husband, Edward Warner Veillon, Sr. of Eunice one brother, Dr. John M. Jack Daly and wife, Pat of Metairie five grandchildren: Frances Julie Bordelon Clayton and husband, Jeff of Plaucheville Richard Andr Bordelon and wife, Savanah of Opelousas Dr. Yvette Bordelon Dzurik and husband, Dr. Matthew Dzurik of Ft. Worth, TX Sean Bordelon of Opelousas and Dr. Edward Warner TedVeillon, Jr. and wife, Dana of Baton Rouge twelve greatgrandchildren: Shelby Boudreaux, Nicholas Clayton, Benjamin Clayton, Abigail Clayton, Alexander Clayton, Ava Clayton, Seth Bordelon, Abigail Dzurik, Gracie Veillon, Ellie Veillon, Millie Veillon, and Edward Warner Tripp Veillon III and one greatgreatgranddaughter, Aubrey Boudreaux as well as several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Yves J. Y. Bordelon, Sr., her parents, Dr. Oliver Perry Daly, Jr. and Gertrude Scranton Daly one brother, Dr. O. P. Buddy Dally III, and one sister, Dorothy Dot Daly Compton.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 12, 2012, from 8:30 am until the service in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. A Rosary Service will be officiated by Deacon Reggie Bollich at 12:30 in the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Andre Bordelon, Sean Bordelon, Dr. Nelson Daly, John Daly, Scott Daly, Charles Compton, and Dr. Edward Warner Veillon.
The family would like to thank all who provided such loving and tender care for their mother during her illness.
