Nelson Prochaska

Opelousas – A Funeral Service for Nelson Prochaska will be held on Monday, September 6, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel of Opelousas. Pastor Stacy Miller will conduct the service. Burial will follow in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Eunice.

Nelson, age 56, a resident of Washington, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021.

Nelson took great joy in being a paw paw. He did many over the top things like: digging up the yard to put a large pile of dirt onto the carport for his grandsons to dig in, planting sunflowers and pumpkin patches for them to enjoy, creating a “country water park” in the crop field, and of course sneaking them all the snacks they weren’t “allowed” to have. Nelson enjoyed making other people happy and helping out whenever he could. He would do things like: drop whatever he was working on to help his Son with a repair, surprise family members with anonymous amazon orders after overhearing they were shopping for an item, and napping in his truck while his wife got her nails done. Nelson spent much of his time being productive on his farm. When it was time for some relaxation he would retreat to the hunting camp for the weekend, excessively expand the size of the yard he could enjoy mowing, and sometimes he’d even wake in the middle of a nap to accurately answer trivia questions.

Nelson is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Shanet “Shon” Ashford Prochaska of Washington, father, David J. Prochaska and his wife, Paula of Sunset, sons, Jared Vidrine of Dallas Texas, and Justin Prochaska and his wife, Chelsea of Opelousas, daughter, Katie Baldridge and her husband, Ben of Opelousas, brothers, Lee Prochaska of Des Moines, Iowa, Alex Prochaska and his wife, Emily of Lafayette, Ricky Norris of Texas, sister, Andrea Norris of Texas, three grandchildren, Jackson Baldridge, Walker Baldridge and Everly Prochaska.

Nelson is Preceded in death by his mother, Lynda R. Norris, stepfather, Leo Norris, maternal grandfather, Louis Garvin.

The family requested that visitation be on Sunday, September 5, 2021, from 1:00 pm till time of service on Monday, September 6, 2021.

Pallbearers will be Ben Baldridge, Daniel Baldridge, Alex Prochaska, Mitchell Ashford, Kevin Ashford and Guy Fontenot.

Due to the spread of Covid the family has requested that face covering be worn while inside the funeral home.
