Nelma Darbonne Olivier

May 9, 1938 — October 8, 2023

Nelma Darbonne Olivier was born on May 9, 1938, in Opelousas, Louisiana. She lived a life filled with warmth, kindness, and devotion to her family and friends. Nelma Darbonne Olivier, age 85, passed away on October 8, 2023, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever be etched in the hearts of all who knew her.

Nelma worked for an impressive 30 years at AT&T. Her commitment to her work was unwavering, and she made a significant impact on those around her through her dedication and strong work ethic. The First United Pentecostal Church of Opelousas was always the biggest part of Nelma's life. Nelma loved singing in the church choir and special music with her friends and relatives.

She was honored by her church family for many years as she worked every Sunday as the church financial secretary. Nelma's commitment to her faith was unwavering, and she found great joy in Jesus. Nelma loved outdoors. She and her husband, Phil, enjoyed traveling all around the country on bus tours with retired friends from the telephone company; but she enjoyed as much as anything sitting on the water's edge hoping to catch a big fish or a bunch of crabs. Vegetables from her garden and the harvest of her fishing outings all ended up in a big pot that relatives and friends liked to gather around. The wonderful meals she prepared were always topped off with a great dessert.

Nelma is survived by nephews, Jim Majors (Brenda), Carl Gulino (Lisa), and Barry Gulino (Laura); niece, Susan G. Schilling (Victor); great nephews, John Majors (LaNaya), Joshua Schilling (Autumn), Cole Gulino (Andrea), and Dominic Gulino; great nieces, Ashley Stewart (Ben), Gina Collins, Chelsea Schilling, Alex Gulino, Victoria Gulino, and Carley Thompson (Mac); step-children, Nelma D. Ledoux (Lynn) and Felix J. Olivier Jr.; grandchildren, Dwight Olivier (Amy), Felicia D. Fox (Michael), Travis LeDoux, Jody LeDoux (Nikki) and Heidi Turner (Jeremy); eight great-great nieces and nephews; ten great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Nelma is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Felix Joseph Olivier Sr., parents, Fred & Marie Darbonne and sister, Nelwyn Gulino.

Pallbearers will include: John Majors, Travis LeDoux, Jody LeDoux, Joshua Schilling, Gabe Majors, Ethan LeDoux, Dwight Olivier and Holden LeDoux.
