Opelousas Funeral services for Monroe Joseph Roy, 83, will be held at 2:00PM Tuesday, October 17, 2006, in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Port Barre..Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Church Mausoleum in Port Barre.
Monroe Joseph Roy, a resident of Port Barre, died at 3:15PM Sunday October 15, 2006 at Opelousas General Health System.
Mr. Roy was a lifelong member of the Elks Lodge 1048 of Opelousas, a past board member for Bank One and a member of the Port Barre Town Council.
Mr. Roy was a catcher for the Port Barre Oilers baseball team during the 1950s.
He was an avid hunter and politician and a huge L.S.U. football fan. Mr. Roy was also an active supporter of the St. Josephs Indian School in Chamberlain, South Dakota.
Survivors include his companion Gwen Arnaud of Port Barre, two daughters Carolynn Lomenick and husband Otis of Opelousas, Patricia Pat Richard and husband Warren Sleepy; two brothers Harry Joseph Pa-Joe Roy of Port Barre and Michael Kieth Roy of Baton Rouge; a sister Marjorie Elaine Totty Roy of Port Barre; seven grandchildren Phyllis Stanford and husband Dr. Jason Fontenot, Sean Stanford and wife Wendy, Hiedi Stanford Busby, Amber Lane Stanford and husband Dr. Eric Amy, Jimmy Richard and wife Anita, David Richard, Dana Buhler and husband Chris; thirteen great grandchildren Tyler, Lyndsay, and Ryan Fontenot, Jacob, Anna, and Isaac Stanford, Jack Busby III, Ella Claire Amy, Lauren, Landon, and Lindsey Richard , and Ashlyn and Chrislyn Buhler. Mr. Roy also had a dog named Sammy that he loved like a son.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lucy Fontenot, parents Authur and Isaure Devillier Roy, four brothers Rayfield, Clayton Day, Creighton To-To, and Authur Nutsy Roy, and a sister Arlene sister Mistric.
