OPELOUSAS- A Private Graveside Service will be held for Milton Dekerlegand at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Port Barre. Fr. Clint Trahan will conduct the service.
Milton, age 77, a native of Port Barre resident of Opelousas, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2020 at Opelousas General Health System.
Milton enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting squirrels, fishing and crawfishing. He loved visiting with friends and never met a stranger. Those who knew him knew he loved his butterscotch candies and always had some handy. Milton will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his daughters, Melissa Dekerlegand Richard and husband, Shane and Sandra Dekerlegand Kaiser and husband, Stanley; six brothers; seven sisters; grandchildren, Devin, Aimee and Addy Richard, Heather Johnson, Anita Hutchins and Jeremy Duplechain; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by wife, Betty Joyce Dekerlegand; parents, Eddie Dekerlegand and Edna Mae Bazar Dekerlegand; son, Murphy Carl Dekerlegand; grandson, Mikey Duplechain; and brother, Murphy Dekerlegand.
Pallbearers will be Devin Richard and Jeremy “J.J.” Duplechain.
