Grand Coteau Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred S. Ortego, 79, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, 2009, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the St. Charles Cemetery in Grand Coteau. Rev. Benny Reppond will officiate the services.

Mrs. Ortego was born in Alpharetta, Georgia and was a long-time resident of Sunset. She died at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2009, in the Opelousas General Health System. She was a retired Child Services Worker with the St. Landry Parish Community Action.

She loved spending time with family and friends. She was a special and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was known affectionally to everyone as Maw Maw Mickey. She enjoyed playing bingo and loved taking care of her pet, Linkin. She also loved her extended family and will be sadly missed by all.

Survivors include one daughter, Janet Burns of Sunset; one brother, Charles Smith, Jr. of Dawsonville, GA; one sister, Sarah Richard of Peninsula, Ohio; one granddaughter, Katie E, Burns of Sunset, LA; three great-grandchildren: Kain Michael Savoie, Danny Ortego, Jr. and Shelby Ortego; great niece, Kristen Menard; great-great niece, Korityn Volkmann; great- great nephews: Reese Menard and Thad Menard; and a very special friend, Hazel Spence.

Mrs. Ortego was preceded in death by her husband, John Donavon Ortego; one son, James Daniel Ortego; one daughter, Sandra Elaine Ortego; one grandson, Danny Ortego; her parents: Charles Smith, Sr. and Bessie Smith; and son-in-law, Ricky Burns.

Visiting hours will be observed from 1- 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2009, in the Sibille Funeral Home of Grand Coteau. On Sunday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m.-time of services in the funeral home. A prayer service will be recited at 7 p.m. on Saturday evening in the funeral home.

The family would like to extended special thanks to the Courville family of Sunset who gave much love, care, and support to Mrs. Ortego during her times of need.
