Mildred Leger

Opelousas- A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Mildred Bertrand Leger will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas. Fr. Gregory Simien will celebrate the Mass. Readers will be Victoria Carriere and Jordan Leger. Gift bearers will be Stephanie L. Richard and Alyce L. Marks, DVM. Rite of Committal will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.

Mildred was born in Prairie Ronde, LA, she resided in Opelousas for many years, and later retired to Scott, LA. She entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at Senior Village Nursing Home surrounded by her family, at the age of 91 just a few days short of her 92nd birthday. Mildred served as a Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, where she enjoyed attending bible study for many years. She was a dedicated member of the Catholic Daughters of America, the Ladies Alter Society, and a block rosary leader. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, and babysitting. Mildred cherished time spent with her family, especially going camping with them. She will be remembered for her willingness to always help those in need. Mildred will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Ronald Leger and wife, Jackie, Donald Leger and wife, Venita, Gerald Leger, Andrew Leger, Catherine L. Carriere and husband, Roger, Mary L. Richard and husband, Scott; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren; and a special neighbor and friend, Grace Tromblay.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Norris J. Leger; son, Kenneth J. Leger; daughter-in-law, Cheryl P. Leger; and a host of siblings.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2021 for the public from 9:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. The eulogy will be read by her godson, Bryant Fontenot at 1:00 p.m and the rosary will be recited at 1:15 p.m. by Deacon Jerome Collins.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Leger, Scott Richard, Jordan Leger, Jordan Richard, Alex Laird and Bryant Fontenot. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Leger, Donald Leger, Gerald Leger and Roger Carriere.
