Michael Sharkey, 55, of Port Barre, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at his residence in Port Barre. Michael was a kindhearted, generous man who loved his family and friends above everything else. A voracious reader, he was a professional student who cherished the pursuit of knowledge, and enjoyed competitive billiards, cards, and games. Michaels was an introverted intellectual and realist who saw the world as it was and not as he or others wanted it be. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Michael was a computer scientist with a BS in Math, BS in Engineering, MS in Computer Science. Currently, he was a PHD candidate in Computer Science at ULL.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Paula Sharkey parents, Anthony Francis Xavier Bud Sharkey and Kathryn Sharkey daughters, Megan Sharkey, Sarah Sharkey, and Anna Sharkey grandson, Zeb Redman brothers, Charles Sharkey and Martin Sharkey and nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre on Sunday, May 19th, 2013, from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening in the funeral home. A private memorial service will be held at a later date, for Michael. Donations will be directed towards academic scholarship and research, p.o. box 58 Port Barre, LA 70577.
