Michael Doucet, Sr.

Port Barre - A Mass of Christian Burial for Michael Wayne Doucet, Sr. will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2021, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre. Fr. Clint Trahan will officiate the Mass. Readers will be his nieces, Melissa Armond and Cindy Soileau. Rite of Committal will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.

Michael, age 68, a resident of Port Barre, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at his home. He will be missed by all his family and friends.

Michael was a Cajun Musician who played 20 plus years with his brother, Johnny Sonnier and numerous local musicians such as, Terry Stelly, Felton LeJeune, Kenny Richard and Joe Aymond. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dianna Savoie Doucet; sons, Michael W. Doucet, Jr. and Tony Bertrand; grandchildren, Tabitha Bertrand, Anthony Bertrand, Selena Doucet and Owen Doucet; 4 great-grandchildren; brothers, Mark Anthony Doucet, Mitchell Doucet, Johnny Sonnier, Leo Doucet and Whitney Doucet; sister, Elizabeth Doucet; godchild, Ashley Sonnier Guidry; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents, Charles and Deola Cormier Doucet; brother, Edward Charles Doucet; sister, Suzanne Doucet; and sister-in-law, Betty Doucet.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 1, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. until time of service on Saturday at the Sibille Funeral Home in Port Barre. The rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening.

Pallbearers will be Michael Doucet, Jr., Owen Doucet, Harry Doucet, Benjamin Doucet, John Soileau and Anthony Bertrand, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Doucet and Johnny Sonnier.
