Mercy Higdon

Port Barre A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 18, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Port Barre for Mrs. Mercy Lee Bellard Higdon. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Rev. Father Daniel Picard will celebrate the Mass. Her grandchildren will be assisting in the Mass Altar servers will be Nicholas and Victoria Higdon, Readers will be Morgan Clawson and Caleb Higdon, and Gift bearers will be Emily and Allison Higdon.
Mercy was a native and life long resident of Port Barre. She passed away on Friday, February 15, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family at the age of 72.
She was retired from WalMart as a sales associate with over 15 years of service. She was an outgoing person who made many friends through her job and her family. She enjoyed spending time with the family, especially when it was cooking many Sunday dinners. She loved to cook and look for recipes to share with others. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Eli Wilson Higdon of Port Barre one daughter, Kay Higdon St. Cyr and husband, Robert of Port Barre four sons, Ricky Higdon and companion, Yvonne of Palmetto Cary Higdon and wife, Stephanie of Opelousas Dwayne Higdon and wife, Rachelle of Lafayette and Carroll Higdon and wife, Lisa of Birmingham, AL four brothers, Shelton Bellard of Port Barre Hervy Bellard of Zachary Leonce Bellard, Jr. of Natchitoches and Dale Bellard of North Carolina and twelve grandchildren: Seth, Alex, and Jason St. Cyr Chandler, Emily, Nicholas, Victoria, Grant, Allison, Jacob, and Caleb Higdon and Morgan Higdon Clawson and husband, Alex.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonce Bellard, Sr. and Vina Venable Bellard one daughterinlaw, Brenda Higdon and two sisters, Mary Ann Stout Chiasson and Loyce Prudhomme Devillier.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Seth, Alex, and Jason St. Cyr and Chandler, Grant and Jacob Higdon.
We would like to extend our gratitude to the offices of LaHaye Total Eyecare, Dr. Robert Blem, Dr. Michael Basile, Dr. James Cole, and to the Heart of Hospice for their attentive care.
The family requests that visiting hours be held on Sunday, February 17, 2013, from 2:00 p.m.9:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre. On Monday, visitation will continue from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heart of Hospice, 201 W. Vermilion St., Ste. 200, Lafayette, LA, 70501.
