Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA, Rite of Committal and interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Park. Concelebrants will be The Rev. Msgr. Louis Melancon, The Rev. Msgr. Keith J. DeRouen, The Rev. Fr. James Brady, and The Rev. Fr. Joseph Breaux.
Mrs. Going born September 30, 1924, a resident of Opelousas, died at 2:25 p.m. Sunday, September 23, 2012, at Prompt Succor Nursing Home. She was a graduate of Sunset High School. Mrs. Going was a member of the Louisiana Preceptor Theta Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi, the VFW Auxillary, Catholic Daughters Court 119, and the AIC Mothers Club.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, and sister. She worked along the side of her husband, the late Charles F. Going in his accounting firm.
Survivors include four daughters: Mrs. Robert Cindy Gates of Crowley Mrs. Lester Lynn Hitchcock of Baton Rouge Mrs. Daniel Jackie Klug of Milton, Florida and Mrs. Charles Beth Hebert of Opelousas a son, Charles A. Going Laurie of Opelousas 15 grandchildren and 13 greatgrandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters: Edaise Davis of Baton Rouge Roberta Ruiz of Raleigh, North Carolina and Willa Mae Scales of Lafayette and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mercedes was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. Going her parents, Adam Hebert and Bernadette Courville Hebert and three sisters, Hazel Babineaux, Irene Dohmann and Melba Doucet.
The family request visiting hours to be held on Tuesday, September 25, 2012, from 4:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service beginning at 6:30 p.m. and a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, until time of the Mass. Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas is in charge of the arrangements.
Pall bearers will be her grandsons, Robbie Gates, Adam Gates, Erick England, Dan Klug, Jeff Klug, Jarret Going, Chuck Hebert, Tommy Hebert, Matt Hebert and Adam Hebert.
Honorary pall bearers will be her granddaughters, Betsy Gates, Melissa England Carroll, Krissy Klug, Jade Going, and Jenna Going.
The family would like to extend its deepest gratitude to the staff of Prompt Succor Nursing Home for the loving care they gave to their mother.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Opelousas Area Cerebral Palsy Clinic or to the Opelousas Catholic School Memorial Fund.
