Opelousas Funeral services for Mr. Melvin J. Boss, known to many as Boone, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park. Father Gary Schexneyder will celebrate the Mass.
After a year and a half battle with cancer, he died peacefully at his home in Opelousas surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at the age of 74.
He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb. So he closed your weary eyes and whispered, Peace be Thine.
Boone enjoyed spending time with family, camping, playing cards, listening to music and enjoying life. He was always ready with a coup de main. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him.
He was a US Army veteran who served his country. He retired from Daigle Welding Supply after 40 years of service.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Helen Noel Boss two daughters: Brenda Taylor and husband, Ronnie and Melinda Labbe and husband, Ted 3 grandchildren: Shelly Taylor Johnson, Amanda Labbe Menard, and Brandon Taylor, all of Opelousas 2 greatgrandchildren: Braylon and Carson and two brothers: Marion and Harris Boss.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Seth Labbe sister, Irene Bernard and his parents, Abbie and Mydia Boss.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Taylor, Ted Labbe, Brandon Taylor, B J Johnson, Travis Menard, and Blaine Boss.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Monday, March 8, 2010, from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. On Tuesday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Mr. Boss to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105 or to Heart of Hospice, 201 West Vermilion, Suite 100, Lafayette, LA, 70501.
