OPELOUSAS-A Funeral Service will be held for, Melissa M. Winningham, on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Pastor Eugene Reiszner will conduct the service. Entombment will follow in the St. Leo Mausoleum in Leonville.
Melissa, age 54, a resident of Leonville, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at Opelousas General Health Systems.
Melissa served as Secretary for the Town of Leonville for the last 35 years. She also served as Commissioner in Charge during election time. Melissa enjoyed giving back to her community by volunteering with Second Harvest Food Bank and serving as a dedicated board member of the Community Action Agency. In her free time, she enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her family whom she loved so much. However, the time she treasured most was that spent with her grandkids; who affectionally knew her as "Mamie". She will be remembered as an all-around amazing woman who will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband of 12 years, J.C. Winningham; her mother, Betty Bergeron Miller; her son, Dustin Keith Robin; her daughter, Jamie Robin Stelly and her husband, Brandon; her brother, Mike Miller and his significant other, Vicky Guidroz; her sister, Vella Miller Knott and her husband, Calvin; and her 4 grandchildren, Lei, Kai, Avi, and Rome Stelly.
She is preceded in death by her father, George John Miller; her sister, Darla Jean Miller; and her infant granddaughter, Addison Robin.
The family requests visitation be held on Monday, June 11, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. Visitation will resume on Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
Pallbearers will be Jordan Knott, Chad Miller, Scotty Taylor, Scotty Charlie, John Bernard, and Corey Martin. Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Noel and Steve Johnson.
