Melba Soileau Leger
Port Barre- Funeral services for Mrs. Melba Soileau Leger, age 74, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2009, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Father Nicky Trahan will officiate the services.
Melba was a native of the Washington area and was a long-time resident of Port Barre. She died on Sunday, December 20, 2009, at Opelousas General Health System. She was a homemaker and cared for her family. She was a great cook and enjoyed working in her yard, especially tending to her rose bushes. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
Survivors include three sons: Lawrence B. Leger, Jr., Daniel Craig Leger, and Terry Wade Leger, Sr. and wife, Lena; one daughter, Gloria Deville and husband, Roger, all of Port Barre; two brothers: Jessie Soileau and wife, Gloria of Opelousas; and Bobby Soileau and wife, Joyce of Port Barre; one sister, Patsy Noel and husband, Maxie of Port Barre; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence B. Leger, Sr.; and her parents: Milton Soileau and Bella Guillory Soileau.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Craig Leger, Ronald Bergeron, Jr., Martin Sonny Leger, Sr., Martin Papoose R. Leger, Jr., Joseph Bergeron, Jude Michael Hebert, Tom Burdick, and Cody S. Leger. Honorary pallbearer will be Dr. Patrick Gillespie.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre on Monday, December 21, 2009, beginning at 4 p.m. with an all night wake until 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
