Melba Britt

OpelousasA Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA, for Mrs. Melba McMillan Britt. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the St. Charles Cemetery in Grand Coteau. The Reverend Msgr. Keith J. DeRouen will be the celebrant of the Funeral Mass.

Melba was born in Church Point, LA, and was a longtime resident of Opelousas. She passed away on Friday, May 25, 2012, at her home at the age of 85.
She was a homemaker, devoted wife, and a loving and caring mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, of 67 years, Dale Britt of Opelousas four sons, Dale R. Britt and wife, Myrtice of Sevierville, TN Fred Britt and wife, Judith of Moneta, Virginia Glenn Britt of Houston, TX and Matthew Britt and wife, Phyllis of Opelousas six daughters, Janet Burleigh of Grand Prairie Barbara Britt of Opelousas Patricia Waldron and husband, Al of Mobile, AL Catherine Britt of Opelousas Alice Mitchel of Shreveport and Rose Ann Schmidt of Katy, TX one sister , Dorothy Ortego of Opelousas 21 grandchildren, 15 greatgrandchildren, and 1 greatgreatgrandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Neil and Josephine Richard McMillan 4 brothers, 1 sister, and one greatgranddaughter, Megan Ide.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas.

A Rosary will be recited at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning in the church.
