OpelousasA Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 8, 2013, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA, for Matthew Shane Pitre, known to many as Shane. Rev. Father Paul Bienvenu will celebrate the Mass. The readings will be done by Taylor Pitre, Lauren Vaccaro, and Katy Venable. The gifts will be presented by Conner and Jesse Vaccaro, Camille and Nicolas Pitre. Rite of Committal and interment will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, LA.

Shane was a native of Opelousas and was a longtime resident of Praire Ronde. He passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2013, in Prairie Ronde.

At the time of his death, Shane was employed by Dupre Logistics, LLC in Lafayette, LA, for nine years where he was currently the Human Resources Manager. While at Dupre Logistics, he received the North American Transportation Management Institute Certified Safety Manager NATMI.
He earned his Industrial Technology Bachelors Degree from University of LouisianaLafayette where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He was also a U. S. Navy Veteran who served his country proudly. He was the recipient of the Navy Achievement Medal and was an Honor Graduate of Engineman Class A.
A loving husband, father, son, brother, cousin, uncle and friend, Shane devoted his entire life to his family and friends. He lived his life to the fullest. He enjoyed being outside and cooking meals. Full of love and spirit, he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Shane is survived by his wife of nine years, Sara Anderson Pitre of Prairie Ronde one son, Tyler Kevin Pitre of Prairie Ronde three daughters, Courtney Josephine Pitre, Roycie Elizabeth Lulu Pitre, and Sophie Isabelle Pitre, all of Prairie Ronde one brother, Patrick Ellis Pitre and wife, Donna of Washington four sisters, Kimberly Smith and husband, Craig of Opelousas Jolynn Vaccaro and husband, Dominick of Sunset Roxane Venable of Baton Rouge and Rhonda Pitre of Houston, TX his father, Ellis Pitre of Pitreville and mother, Natalie Wulf Pitre of Opelousas his fatherinlaw and motherinlaw, Gary and Christine Anderson of Chewelah, Washington his godchildren, Taylor Paige Pitre and Julianne Camille Pitre nieces and nephews, Tucker and Katie Smith of Garland Cody Smith of Opelousas Lauren Vaccaro of Carencro Katy and Meghan Venable of Baton Rouge and Kenny Stewart of Houston, TX cousins, Lance and Kelly Pitre of Eunice his best friend, Tracy Marks of Opelousas and a host of aunts, uncles, and friends.

Pallbearers will be Pat Pitre, Craig Smith, Tucker Smith, Cody Smith, Lance Pitre, and Dominick Vaccaro. Honorary pallbearers will be Tracy Marks, Tyler Pitre, Khalifa Martin, and Perry Smithey.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013, from 12:00 p.m. noon until 10:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Sunday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home. A Rosary Service will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday evening in the funeral home.
