Mathilda Lavergne Castille

Lawtell Funeral services for Mrs. Mathilda Lavergne Castille, age 68, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2009, in the St. Bridget Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the St. Bridget Cemetery.

Father Daniel Picard will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.

Mrs. Castille was a native and long-time resident of the Lawtell area. She died on Thursday, July 9, 2009, in her residence. She previously worked for the School Systems as a janitor for 13 years and she was a cook for Doctors Hospital for 17 years. She was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church. She collected dolls and dishes, planted flowers, and enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Luke E. Castille of Lawtell; four sons: Ricky Castille, Kenneth Castille, James Castille, all of Lawtell; and Carl Castille of Opelousas; one daughter, Connie Fontenot and husband, Vernal of Leonville; one brother, Sylvester Lavergne of Ville Platte; one sister, Norma Jean Chapman of Ville Platte; 21 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Castille was preceded in death by her parents: Gilbert Lavergne and Lena Jagneaux Lavergne; granddaughter, Natalie Sue Dimonde; one sister, Goldie Comeaux; and one brother, Goldman Lavergne.

Visiting hours will be observed on Friday, July 10, 2009, from 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Saturday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.

A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening in the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
