Mary Ruby Trahan Tate
Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ruby Trahan Tate, age 83, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2009, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Washington. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.
Fr. Albert Nunez will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.
Mrs. Tate passed away at 1:45 p.m. on Monday, March 9, 2009, at her residence. A native of Lawtell, Louisiana, Ruby was the daughter of Joseph and Annie Comeaux Trahan. She moved to Opelousas, LA in 1944, where she resided until her death. A loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, Ruby devoted her life to her family and friends. She loved gardening and passed the love of flowers to following generations. She continued her devotion to family following the death of her husband, Clarence Tate in 1979.
We will surely miss our beloved, Ruby Begonia.
Survivors include Five sons: Dale Tate and wife, Mona of Maurepas, LA; Kurt Tate and wife, Sylvia of Opelousas; Danny Tate and wife, Gaye of Prairieville; Ron Tate of Pensacola, FL; and Dwayne Tate and wife, Virginia of Opelousas; four daughters: Diana Tate of Denver, CO; Joyce T. Granger and husband, Bobby of Johnstown, CO; Karen T. Stelly and husband, Floyd of Opelousas; Debbie T. Masse and husband, John of Church Point, LA; two daughters-in-law, Marilynn H. Tate of Rosepine; and Mae M. Tate of Alexandria; two sisters: Mary Norma Tootsie Cortez of Opelousas; and Marie Herbie Vidrine of Lawtell; brother, Joseph J.V. Trahan of Berwick; 31 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Clarence Tate; four sons: Jeff, Jimmy, Bruce, and Glenn Tate; daughter, Patti T. Blanchard; two infants: John and Joseph Tate; grandson, Paul W. Stelly; parents: Joseph and Annie Comeaux Trahan; brothers: Floyd and Hersey Trahan.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. On Thursday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
