Washington Funeral services for Mary Mona F. Sylvester, , will be held at 10: 00 AM on Wednesday, September 5, 2007, in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Washington, followed by interment in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum in Ville Platte.
The Reverend Albert Nunez will officiate the services.
Mrs. Sylvester, was a native of Grand Prairie, lived her married life in Vidrine, but lived in Washington for the last 15 years, died at 6:50 p.m. on Monday, September 3, 2007 at the Opelousas General Health System.
Mona was loved by everyone who knew her. She enjoyed people and was active in her home until her illness. Mrs. Sylvester was a graduate of the Academy of the Sacred Heart College in Grand Coteau where she received her degree in education. She retired from teaching after 36 years. Mrs. Sylvester was an active member of the Retired Teachers Association, the St. Mary's Altar Society, and a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Washington.
Survivors include her daughter, Norma Ann Sylvester Plattsmier and husband Winfred Winn J. Plattsmier of Washington; grandson, Anthony Joseph Plattsmier of Washingon and a granddaughter, Lauren Ann Plattsmier of Baton Rouge.
Mrs. Sylvester was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton John Sylvester; parents, Eraste and Cora Fontenot; brothers, Melvin, Octave, Dudley, and Allen Fontenot; sisters, Lillian Delafosse, Pearl Guillory, Ivy Brown, Nell Soileau, and Dorothy Robicheau.
PVisiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Tuesday, September 4, 2007, from 4:00p.m. -9:00p.m. and will re-open at 8:00a.m. on Wednesday until service time. A rosary will be recited at 7:00p.m. on Tuesday.o
