PORT BARRE- A Funeral Service will be held for Mary Elizabeth Talley Reaux on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Port Barre Baptist Church. Pastor Benji Richard will conduct the service. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Sibille Funeral Home in Port Barre. Burial will follow the church services at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.
Mary Elizabeth Talley Reaux, passed away on July 12, 2022, at the age of 96. She was born in Mansfield, Louisiana on November 18,1925, to parents Samuel and Mamie Talley. In 1931, the family moved to Port Barre, Louisiana where her father was transferred by Texaco. She remained in Port Barre for most of her life.
Elizabeth, known familiarly as Me-T was a long-time member of Port Barre Baptist Church. Being the oldest active member of her church was a distinction she wore with pride.
Me-T met her future husband, Charles Reaux, while attending Port Barre High School. She attended Louisiana College in Pineville for a year, before marrying Charles (Cholly) in early 1943.
During WWII, Me-T worked in New Orleans factories as a welder and riveter on B-24 airplanes, while her husband was stationed on various USAF bases in the US and Britain.
After the war, Me -T and Cholly built a home, living and working in the town of Port Barre, while raising five children. They were civic minded and willingly contributed to their community.
She was a gifted seamstress, a great cook, and an avid gardener who enjoyed working and growing plants in her garden. Cholly and Me-T traveled together frequently to visit family and friends.
Me-T lived a wonderful and full life. Preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Charles Reaux, her mother and father, brothers, Samuel Talley, Jack Talley, and William “Bill” Talley, her sisters-in-law, her daughter Pauline Reaux Fulop, her son, Charles “Chuck” Reaux, and many other family members and friends.
She is survived by her sons, Steven T. Reaux, J. Norbert Reaux and wife Helen Reaux, Ned L. Reaux and wife Cindy Reaux; her grandchildren, Allison Fulop Andrus and husband Leon Andrus, Caryn Fulop, Lisa Fulop Cormier and husband Blake Cormier, Megan Reaux, Jonathan Reaux and wife Carmen Reaux, Blaine Reaux and wife Samantha, Jillian Reaux, and Kathryn Reaux; and her great grandchildren, Jaylon Andrus, Adalynn Andrus, Lauren Fulop, Ezra Guidry, Alivia Cormier, Mary Cormier, Jonathan W. Reaux, Dustin Reaux, Colton Reaux, and Blake Reaux.
