Grand Coteau A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Grand Coteau, LA, for Mrs. Mary Geraldine Lawrence, known to many as Geraldine. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the St. Charles Cemetery in Grand Coteau, LA.

Geraldine was born in New Orleans and was a long time resident of Sunset. She passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2013, at J. Michael Morrow Memorial Nursing Home in Arnaudville, at the age of 90.

Geraldine graduate from Sunset High School in 1939. She was the outstanding honor graduate of the New Orleans Charity Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. She served as a First Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing Education from LSU in 1948. She worked in various Veterans Administration Hospitals in nursing administration positions from 1951 until her retirement in 1981, when she returned to live in Sunset. Geraldine was instrumental in establishing the South St. Landry Community Library in Sunset. She did volunteer work at the Thenstead Center and St. Charles Church and was a member of the Ladies Altar Society. Her hobbies were reading, crossword puzzles, card games, traveling and needlework.

Survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great and greatgreatnieces and nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William I. Lawrence and Bertha Bernard Lawrence her brother, Willie Lawrence her sisters, Joyce L. Fox, Lucille L. ORoark, and Mary Frances L. Christianson.

Visiting hours will be observed in the St. Charles Catholic Church on Saturday, February 9, 2013, from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
