Mary Richard

Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Grace Richard, age 86, will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 26, 2008, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the St. John Berchman Catholic Church In Cankton, followed by interment in the St. Charles Cemetery in Grand Coteau. The Reverend Henry Broussard will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.

Mrs. Richard was a native of Broussard spent most of her life in Sunset. She passed away at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2008, at Courtyard Manor Nursing Home.

Mrs. Richard was a graduate of St. Cecila High School in Broussard. She was also a graduate of SLI in Lafayette where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. Most of her teaching career was spent in St. Landry Parish, mostly at Opelousas Senior High School. Mrs. Richard was a member of the Children of Mary Society and the Ladies Altar Society of St. Charles Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Dale Richard of Lafayette; her son, David Richard and his wife Linda of Broussard, La; one brother, Lawrence Girouard of Broussard, La; one grandchild, Beau Joseph Richard; a host of nieces and nephews and her sister-in-law Roberta and husband Henry Monteilh of Sunset, La

Proceeded in death by her parents: Dominic Girouard and Jeanne Theaux; three brothers: Lionel, Jerome, and Louis Girouard; three sisters: Marie Louise Jones, Beatrice Girouard and Lillian Wainwright.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Grand Coteau on Sunday, May 25, 2008, from 11:00 a.m. until 9 p.m. On Monday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
