Port Barre-- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mary Dupre Fontenot on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre. Fr. Clint Trahan will offficate the Mass. The burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Port Barre. A visitation will on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 8:30 a.m. until time of Mass. A Rosary will be prayed at 1:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Port Barre.
Mary Fontenot, a devoted homemaker and cherished member of her family, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2024, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas. She was born on August 15, 1934 in Washington, Louisiana.
Mary was a loving and caring person who dedicated her life to her family and friends. Her warmth and compassion touched all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed. She cherished moments spent with her loved one and took great pride in being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Mary is survived by her beloved sons, Anthony Fontenot, Sr. (Lynette) and Jason Fontenot (Vonn), and her daughter, Renee' Soileau (Terry). She also leaves behind her cherished sisters, Hazel Delahoussaye and Judy Maricle, along with a large and loving extended family that includes her adoring grandchildren: Charlie Fontenot (Mary Helen), T.J. Fontenot (Rebekah), Eric Fontenot (Jessica), Lacie Savage (Coby), Ashley Artigue (Joey), Marc Verrette, Jude Soileau (Tiffany), Justin Soileau (Laney), Courtney Soileau, Kyla Rivette, Tyler Fontenot, Lindsay Tyson (Spencer), and Ryan Fontenot. Additionally, she is survived by her great-grandchildren, Leah, Will, and Cara Fontenot, Rhett and Reese Fontenot, Tyler (McKinley), Savanna, and Evelyn Fontenot, John, Wyatt, and Audrey Prudhomme, Landry, John Griffin and Oliver Savage, Grace, Emma Claire, Lily, and Benjamin Artigue, Graycee, Eli, Emeri, and Jolie Soileau, Jason and Wyatt Soileau, Brinleigh, Madelyn, Camille, and Linnix Rivette. Her legacy extends to her great-great-grandchild, Reid Anthony Fontenot.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Luna Fontenot, as well as her parents, Lawrence and Ida Dupre. She is also reunited in spirit with her sisters-in-law, Jane Richard and Lula Mae Devillier, and her brothers-in-law, Sylvan Richard, Herman Devillier, Harry Delahoussaye, and Gene Maricle, father & mother in law; Roosevelt & Mable Fontenot.
Mary's life was a testament to love and devotion, and her memory will continue to inspire her family and friends for generations to come. She will be remembered for her kindness, her laughter, and her unwavering love for her family.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Fontenot, Eric Fontenot, T.J. Fontenot, Marc Verrette, Tyler Fontenot, and Ryan Fontenot.
