Mary Dupuis
Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ida Aycock Dupuis, age 90, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2009, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas. Rev. Angelo Cremaldi will officiate the Mass assisted by Deacon Sammy Diesi.
Mary was born in Franklin, La. and was a long-time resident of Opelousas; she passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, February 27, 2009. Mary lived life to its fullest; she served as maid on the first Sugar Bowl court and was Queen of the Franklin Mardi Gras. After graduation from Louisiana Normal College in Natchitoches, La., she was employed as a teacher and coached womens sports at Franklin High School. With her husband, State Representative Steve Dupuis, she was involved in many civic and political activities. She was an avid bridge player and loved entertaining. She was happiest when she was caring for and feeding a house full of family and friends. Mary was a longtime member of Our Lady Queen of Angels Church, served on the Queen of Angels Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of America and the Womens Service League. Her family will always remember Meme for her compassionate and loving nature and devotion to her faith. Mary was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be sadly missed by all.
Mary is survived by her sons, James C. Lopez and wife Babs of Opelousas, Steven Joseph Dupuis, Jr. and wife Laurie of Lafayette, Roy P. Dupuis and wife Jenny of Lafayette, Charles W. Dupuis of Opelousas; daughters, Mrs. Danielle Danni Jones and husband Bert of Ruston, Mrs. Stephanie Morris and husband Mike of Opelousas; sister, Mrs. Joann Aycock Morrison of Houma; grandchildren, Dawn and Jimmy Lopez, Doug Westmoreland, Wesley Kretschmer, Dallas and Zachary Morris, Molly Jones Gray, Stephanie Jones Jordan, Tram and Beaux Jones, Kim Dupuis Bourgeouis, Barbie, Reno Danielle, Jake, Nicole, Seth and Allie Dupuis and four great grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her husbands, James Lopez, M.D., Steven Dupuis; parents, Clarence and Inez Crask Aycock; step-mother Amy W. Aycock; brothers, Clarence C. Taddy Aycock and Joseph Aycock.
The family thanks Memes Caregivers, Linda Lewis, Sharon Lazard, Aquilla Lewis Clark and Ramona Gerace for their faithful care and attention.
Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be Marys grandsons.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Sunday, March 1, 2009, beginning at 4:00 p.m. and closing at 8:00 p.m.; Funeral Home will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Monday until time of service.
A Rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday evening in the funeral home.
The family request that memorial donations be made to Our Lady Queen of Angels Church or to Opelousas Catholic School.
