Opelousas -Funeral Service for Mary "Cherie" Delambre will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2016, at Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Rev. Fr. Austin Leger will conduct the Service. A Mass of Christian Burial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lakeland, LA, on Thursday, January 28, 2016. Rev. Fr. Todd Lloyd will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Chenal Cemetery in Jarreau, LA.
Cherie was a native of Baton Rouge and has been a resident of Opelousas and Sunset for the last 46 years. She passed away on January 22, 2016, at the Opelousas General Health System at the age of 62. In her younger years, she went to the Cerebral Palsy Center in Baton Rouge. She was very smart, reading books, reading her Kindle and playing on the computer. However, her physical abilities were limited. Cherie was a very special person who accepted others unconditionally and loved everyone. She looked for and found good in everyone. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
Cherie is survived by her mother, Mary Delambre of Sunset; sisters, June Walker of Sunset, and Blanche Cano and husband, Adolfo of Baton Rouge; sister-in-law, Alice Delambre of Frankfort, KY; nephews and nieces, Chris Cano, David Cano, Frank Cano, Cassie Walker, Darcy Walker, Brian Delambre, and Jason Delambre; her best friend, and Cynthia Smith and husband, Danny of Sunset.
Cherie is now dancing in a meadow of clover with her grandmother, Blanche Major Delambre; father, Jules John Delambre, Jr.; brother, Jules William Delambre; and brother-in-law, Neal Walker. She will be interned at Chenal Cemetery and laid to rest between her father and brother-in-law.
The visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Thursday, the funeral home will reopen at 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. (time of Service) in Opelousas. Then, a brief visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lakeland until time for Mass. A Rosary service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday night in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made in Cherie's name to the McMains Children's Development Center (formally The Cerebral Palsy Center) at 1805 College Drive, Baton Rouge, LA.
