Mary Goree Cantrell

Opelousas Funeral service for Mary Goree Cantrell, will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel. A grave side service will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Military Cemetery in Pineville, La.
Rev. Benny Reppond will lead the family and guest in scriptures and reflections of Mrs. Cantrells Life.
Mary Goree Cantrell died on August 31, 2010, at the age of 85, in Opelousas, La. She was a resident of Cest La Vie Apartments, and then spent her last years living at Prompt Succor Nursing Home, both located in Opelousas. Mrs. Cantrell was born in Haynesville, La, on September 7, 1924, the daughter of Gipson T. Goree and Eula Lewis Goree.
Following high school, Mrs. Cantrell moved to Alexandria, and married Charles D. Cantrell in December, 1942. She was very active in the Pineville United Methodist Church, volunteered at the YWCA in Alexandria, was a leader for the Methodist Youth Fellowship and her childrens Brownie and Cub Scout troops. The Cantrells enjoyed traveling across the country in their motor home and camping with the grandchildren at area lakes. She loved gardening, nature and sewing were among her greatest pleasures.
Mrs. Cantrell is preceded in death by her parents her husband Charles sisters, Dorothy Cope and Barbara Owen and greatgranddaughter Catherine Cantrell.
Mrs. Cantrell is survived by her daughters Connie Brooks and her husband James, Suzie Darbonne and her husband Tom, and her son, Chuck Cantrell, and his wife Phyllis. She is also survived by her sister Peggy Pemberton, and her husband Roger. Her grandchildren are Melissa Smith, Melanie Arnett, Ashley Darbonne, Lesley Darbonne Courville, Charlie Cantrell, and stepgranddaughters Marsha Thibodeaux , Wendi Homan, Allison Bell and step grandson Ben Brooks. Mrs. Cantrell had seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours were held in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas onWednesday, September 1, 2010, beginning at 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
