Mary Stelly Bihm

Lawtell- Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Stelly Bihm, age 78, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2009, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell. Interment will follow in the St. Bridget Cemetery.

Father Daniel Picard will celebrate the Mass.

Mrs. Mary was a native of the Leonville area and was a long-time resident of the Lawtell area. She died on Saturday, August 22, 2009, at Opelousas General Health System. She was co-owner and operator along with her husband of Bihm's Grocery for many years. In her spare time, she loved to sew, crochet, and read. She also loved to cook for her family and friends. She was a great person and extremely devoted to her family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include one son, Elbon Bihm, Jr. of Lawtell; one daughter, Janice Bihm Martin of Lawtell; one brother, Berchman Stelly and wife, Kathy of Lafayette; one sister, Joyce Cheramie and husband, Roland of Luling; five grandchildren: Brian Bihm of Lawtell; Bridget Manuel and husband, Keith of Gainesville, FL; Benjamin Bihm of Lawtell; Wendy Venable and husband, Wayne of Cankton; and Crystal Kirkpatrick and husband, Jonathon of Church Point; and four great-grandchildren: Rebecca Manuel, Joey Venable, Mason Venable, and Carleigh Kirkpatrick.

Preceded in death by her husband, Elbon Bihm, Sr.; parents, Batmouse and Eliza Marks Stelly; two brothers: Lawrence and Allen Stelly; three sisters: Verna Mae Stelly, Edmonia Saucier, and Gladys Taylor; two daughters-in-law: Deanna Bihm and Janine Bihm; and one granddaughter-in-law, Amy Bihm.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Monday, August 24, 2009, from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. On Tuesday, visitation will continue from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

Rosary service will be conducted 8:00 p.m. on Monday evening.
