Martha Galland

Opelousas -A Mass of Christian Burial for Martha A. Galland, age 70, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 21, 2015, in Sibille Funeral Home Chapel. Fr. Allen Breaux will celebrate the Mass. Interment will follow in the Verrette Cemetery in Swords, LA.

Martha passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at her residence in Duson, LA. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family especially the grandchildren. She loved horticulture and tending to her trees and flowers. She would do sewing in her spare time. She was a parishioner of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Catholic Church in Duson for several years. She will be sadly missed by all that knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Elson Galland of Duson; three sons, Vance Wayne Galland and wife, Dawn of Duson; Ward Joseph Galland of Duson; and Joshua Lucas Galland and wife, Shelly of Lafayette; two daughters, Gwendolyn Marie Braum and husband, Kevin Anderson of Kinder; and Victoria Lee Makemson and husband, Aaron Makemson of Sunset; four brothers, Frederick Benoit of Opelousas; Morris Benoit of Church Point; Marvin Benoit of Leonville; and Paul Benoit of Maurice; three sisters, Virginia McBride of Church Point; Patricia Meche of Leonville; and Veronica McCarthy of San Antonio, TX. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Myra Galland, Tristan Galland, Joel Pittman, Dakota Pittman, Elizabeth Galland, Samuel Galland, Bailey Galland, Matthew Galland, and Ashton Makemson.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Myralanta Galland; her parents, Elie Benoit and Avia Marie Brown Benoit; and her brother, Charles Benoit.

Pallbearers will be Vance Galland, Ward Galland, Joshua Galland, Victoria Makemson, Gwendolyn Braum, and Tristan Galland. Honorary pallbearers will be Myra Galland, Joel Pittman, Dakota Pittman, Elizabeth Galland, Ashton Makemson, Samuel Galland, Bailey Galland, and Matthew Galland.

The family requested visiting hours on Sunday, December 20, 2015, beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. for the public. On Monday, the funeral home will reopen at 8:00 a.m. until 10:40 a.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. A Rosary Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday in the funeral home.
