Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Marjorie Amelia Pickett Baker, age 99, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2007, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas, LA. Interment will follow in the Big Cane Baptist Church Cemetery in Big Cane, LA.
Rev. Joe Reynolds will officiate the services. Richard Hebert and Rhonda Guidry will be the vocalists for the service.
Mrs. Marjorie Baker was born in Melville, LA, on January 28, 1908, and left her residence in Opelousas, LA, and went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 18, 2007.
Mrs. Baker was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church of Opelousas, LA, and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved children and taught the first grade for thirty-four years in St. Landry Parish. She served as Justice of the Peace in the Lemoyen area for twenty-five years. As a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend of many, she blessed many lives. She will be remembered for her benevolent spirit and her love of flowers, especially daylillies.
She is survived by two sons: William Baker and wife, Pat of Houston, TX; and Roy E. Baker and wife, Myra of Opelousas; eight grandchildren: William Baker, Jr. and wife, Patty; Robert Baker, Michael Baker and wife, Anna; Kim Baker, David Baker and wife, Laura; Kathy Brandon and husband, Ray; Natalie Baker, and Carrie Weeks and husband, Jonathan; fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and five special nephews.
She decided to celebrate her 100th birthday with her husband, Benjamin Le Roy Baker; her parents: Charles Edward Pickett, Sr. and Hattie Powell Pickett; her brothers: Charles E. Pickett, Jr. and Vernon Pickett; her sister, Georgia Pickett Dunbar; and her half-sister, Ruby Bradford who all preceded her is death.
Visiting hours will be observed on Tuesday, November 20, 2007, beginning at 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Wednesday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m.
