Marion Cummings
A native of Bristol, LA, and resident of Opelousas, he died peacefully at 8:45 PM on Saturday, December 24, 2011, on the eve of his 86th birthday. He was born on December 25, 1925, a US Navy veteran of World War II, he served his country aboard ship in the South Pacific, and was retired from Texas Eastern Transmission Co. In his retirement years, he enjoyed raising cattle and woodworking. Preceded in death by his wife Hattie Barousse Cummings infant son James Carl greatgrandson John Harold Trahan parents Marie Helene Lavergne and Eldridge Cummings sisters Ergalee Dabney Comeaux and Shirley Speyrer and brothers JP Cummings, Gene Cummings and Youel Cummings. Survived by one daughter: Kathleen Trahan husband Allen of Lafayette, LA three sons: John Wayne Cummings wife Cynthia of Sugar Land, TX, Brian Cummings of Opelousas, and Donald Dino Cummings and wife Kay of Baton Rouge, LA seven grandchildren: Karl Trahan wife Celeste of Lafayette, LA Elizabeth Cummings of Houston Julie Manriquez husband Ryan of Houston, Loren Cummings of Springfield, MO Steven Cummings of Sugar Land Zachary Cummings of New Brunswick, NJ and Logan Cummings of New York City four greatgrandchildren: Adrian Connor Tristan, Steven Nelson, Marcus Stanley and Allison Manriquez one sister: Rita Guillaumin of Opelousas one brother: Levy Cummings wife Barbara of Duson, LA and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas on Tuesday, December 27th from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a rosary at 7:00 PM and Wednesday from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic church on Wednesday, December 28th at 10:00 AM, with burial in Bellevue Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Louisiana Hospice Palliative Care 336 Heather Drive, Suite 1, Opelousas, LA 70570, or a charity of choice.
