Nancy, age 91, a native of Pecaniere and resident of Opelousas. She went to be with Jesus on the Feast of Prompt Succor on Friday, January 8, 2021 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home surrounded by her family, which was only fitting.
The oldest of 10 children, she was a natural caregiver helping to see about her younger brothers and sisters and later, her husband and 5 children. Education was of the utmost importance to her and she beamed with pride when she spoke of her children and grandchildren receiving advanced degrees.
She often told stories of her days working in the fields as part of a farming family. Hard work never deterred her, as she went on to do all the household chores, cutting grass, preparing delectable Cajun dishes, and keeping a neat and tidy home. Her eggplant dressing, garfish balls and homemade bread were all family favorites. Often, she told stories of wagon rides with her father to the Moonshine Still and she remembered fondly her most precious grandmother.
Her hospitality was ever apparent when she hosted dinner parties for friends, family, and her husband’s business associates.
In her later years, Nancy enjoyed watching the news. She could tell you about any current event you wanted to know about, including politics. Her days were spent praying for and thinking about her family, precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her last days were spent surrounded by the dedicated staff of Prompt Succor Nursing Home and her family.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Gene Saizon (Joan) of Lafayette, Gary Saizon (companion, Tammy) of Leonville; daughters, Carolyn Speich (John) of Houston, TX, Stephanie Guillory (Nestor) of Carencro; sisters, Florence B. Lalonde, Loretta B. Fontenot, Denise B. Janse; 7 grandchildren, Casey Carriere Alff, Sara Saizon Landry, Allison Saizon, Alex Saizon, Alexis Guillory Veillon, Savri Guillory Degatur, Amber Guillory DeLano; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alexis Saizon, Jr.; daughter, Celeste Marie Saizon; parents, Florence Lalonde Badeaux and Francis F. Badeaux; siblings, Elsie B. Richard, Gloria “Judy” B. Andrus, Francis F. Badeaux, Joseph Louis Badeaux, John Lonnie Badeaux and Kenneth Badeaux.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 10, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. Deacon Dwayne Joubert will recite the rosary at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Visitation will resume on Monday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
