Marie Theresa Portal

A light from our household has dimmed; a voice we loved has been stilled; a place is vacant in our hearts that never can be filled. She closed the family circle being the last of thirteen children.

Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Theresa Portal, age 96, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel of Opelousas, followed by interment in the Sacred Heart Church Cemetery in Port Barre. The Reverend Benny Reppond will conduct the service.

Mrs. Portal was a native of Leonville and resident of Opelousas. She passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2008, at 5:00 p.m. at Maison Deville Nursing Home in Opelousas.

Survivors include her three sons; Norvan Stelly and wife Janice of Opelousas, Donald Stelly and wife Velma of Krotz Springs, and Terry Stelly of Port Barre; five daughters; Verna Lanclos and husband Roy of Port Barre, Ethelene Callaway of Port Barre, Velma Stoute of Conroe, TX, Mary Lyce Stelly of Opelousas, and Patsy Thomassee of Fordoche, LA.; her thirty- four grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Portal was preceded in death by her 1st husband Nolty Stelly, her 2nd husband, Joe Portal; her parents, Louis LaLonde and Olymphe Robin; her son, Jesse Stelly; three grandchildren, Orlan Stelly, Wendell Thomassee, and Roudy Stelly; seven brother and five sisters.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services.
