Marie Lastrapes

Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial for Marie Therese Lastrapes will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2016, in the Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Rev. Msgr. Keith DeRouen will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park.
It is with great sadness that the family of Marie announces her passing on Monday, August 15, 2016, at the age of 96. Marie was an excellent cook and operated a catering service for 39 years, she was well known throughout St. Landry Parish for her delicious meals. She loved being with her family as much as possible. She was a very devoted catholic and prayed to the blessed mother every day. She was an avid reader and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-great grandmother, she enjoyed watching western movies with her beloved son-in-law Bobby Porche, and enjoyed zydeco dancing.
She will be greatly missed by her children, J. Melvin Lastrapes, Jr. and his wife, Bobbie of Rock Island, IL., and Ann C. Porche and her husband, Bobby of Rosharon, TX, sister, Lucy Thibodeaux of Washington State, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband, Melvin Lastrapes, her parents, Napoleon and Aliska Guillory Collins, and Elizabeth Collins, eight brothers, and three sisters.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Friday, August 19, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday the funeral home will reopen at 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
