Marian Doucet

Opelousas- A Mass of Christian Burial for Marian Marmande Doucet will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 in the St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. Fr. James Brady and Fr. Jerry Mesley will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in the St. Landry Catholic Church Cemetery.
Marian was a native of Theriot, La. and a longtime resident of Opelousas and New Roads. She passed away on Monday, March 28, 2016 at Rosewood Retirement and Assisted Living Community in Lafayette at the age of 89. She was a graduate of Northwestern State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics. She was a home economic agent for Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service for many years. She later taught nutrition at T.H. Harris Vocational School before becoming a full time mother. She was the owner and operator of Doucet's Furniture Store with her husband, Hosea. She was the past president of the Opelousas Women's Club and was a member of the choir at St. Landry Catholic Church and St. Mary Catholic Church of False River, the Pointe Coupee Historical Society, VFW Auxiliary and the Yambilee Campers. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed gathering with family and friends, cooking, baking, sewing, and needlepoint. She was known by her family for her homemade pecan pie. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her three sons, Hosea Joseph Doucet, III, MD, of New Orleans; Donald William Doucet, MD, and wife, Madeline, of New Roads; and Gregory James Doucet of Opelousas; her two daughters, Diane Doucet Gallagher of Opelousas, and Jeanie Marian Doucet of Lafayette; step daughter, Eve Alexander Nooft of Columbia, SC.;seven grandchildren, Kathleen G. Glasscock, Elizabeth L. Gallagher,DVM., Michael R Gallagher, Ashley D. Bordelon,MD, Patrick J. Doucet, Maureen A. Doucet and Morgan M. Doucet; one great-grandchild, Blaise C. Glasscock; two brothers, Marvin V. Marmande and Burton B. Marmande; one sister, Patricia Marmande Trahan; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Hosea Joseph Doucet, Jr., the father of her children; her second husband, Morris Connelly Alexander; parents, Marceline V. Marmande, DDS, and Antoinette Toups Marmande; brother, William A. Marmande, MD; sister, Virginia Marmande Lee Powers; son-in-law, Dudley Michael Gallagher; and grandson, Steven R. Gallagher.
Visitation will begin on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening in Sibille Funeral Home. On Wednesday, visitation will continue at 8 a.m. until the time of services.
The family would like to extend a thank you to her caregivers Mary Alice Francis and Lestria Breaux, and a special thank you to Mary Citizen for their years of caring for their mother.
