Margaret Babin Ortego

Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Babin Ortego, age 59, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2009, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.

Fr. Angelo Cremaldi will celebrate the Mass. Music will be provided by Ann Purser and Pat Leblanc. The Readers will be Debbie Ortego and Pam Ortego. The gifts will be presented by Gayle Babin and Melanie Babin.

Mrs. Margaret was a native and life-long resident of Opelousas. She passed from life on Thursday, January 15, 2009, at 9:45 p.m. at her residence from a brief illness.

Mrs. Margaret was married to Mr. Paul Wayne Ortego and they spent 40 wonderful years together. She worked for the St. Landry Parish School Board for over 16 years as a teacher's aide.

Mrs. Margaret was a jolly person and lived her life to the fullest. She enjoyed camping, fishing, and being outdoors. She loved spending time with her family and friends especially her children and grandchildren. Talking of the telephone was a great pastime for Mrs. Margaret. She would talk to her sister many times throughout the day to share ideas, news and local events. She was a wonderful wife, and a loving mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend. She is going to be sadly missed by her family and many friends.

She is survived by her husband, Mr. Paul Wayne Ortego of Prairie Ronde; one son, Marcus Ortego and wife, Karin of Prairie Ronde; two daughters: Cindy Ortego of Leonville; and Nicole Ortego Hayes and husband, Kevin of Broussard; three brothers: Charles Babin of Opelousas; Gilbert Babin of LaPort, TX; and Gervis Babin of Opelousas; one sister, Dorothy Leger of Opelousas; and seven grandchildren: Colby and Jordon Bergeron of Leonville; Madison Ortego of Plaucheville; Braydon and Landon Ortego of Prairie Ronde; and Jada and Sydney Hayes of Broussard.
