Manette Marie Hargroder
Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Manette Marie Ortego Hargroder, 98, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 4, 2008, at St. Landry Catholic Church of Opelousas. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park of Opelousas.
Father Paul Metrejean will conduct the Mass of Christian Burial.
Mrs. Hargroder was born in Grand Prairie and lived most of her adult life in Opelousas. She spent part of her latter years living in Port Barre with her daughter and family. She died on Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at 11:25 p.m. in the Prompt Succor Nursing Facility in Opelousas.
Mrs. Hargroder was a grocery store owner in Opelousas and also was a very talented seamstress. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother. She had a very special love for people and will be sadly missed by all that knew her.
Survivors include her son, Willard Hargroder and wife, Melba of Opelousas; daughter, Geraldine Gerry Ryder of Port Barre; brother, Louis P. Fontenot of Opelousas; sister, Ethel Jansing of New Orleans; 11 grandchildren: Ronald Ryder and wife, Sherry; Jeff Ryder and wife, Susan; Becky Guidry and husband, Russell; Diane Wyble and husband, Dale; Lynne Pate and husband, Gary; Don Hargroder and wife, Arlene; Joan Bazar and husband, Mike; Hope Gaudin and husband, Todd; Connie Danaher and husband, Bob; Randy Hargroder and wife, Vickie; and George Hargroder. She is also survived by 29 great grandchildren and 16 great- great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Turling Hargroder, parents: Albert and Eliza Fontenot Ortego; son. James Hargroder; brother, Wille Ortego; sisters: Mable Boudreaux, and Irene Phillips; and son-in-law, Ivan Buck Ryder.
Visiting hours will be observed on Thursday, July 3, 2008, from 4:30 until 10:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. The Funeral Home will reopen of Friday, July 4, at 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday night in the funeral home.
Mrs. Hargroder's family would like to express great thanks and appreciation to the Prompt Succor Nursing Home staff and the special friend that took such good care of her, also a thanks to La. Hospice and Palliative Care for the care rendered.
