Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Malcolm "Slick" Martin, age 85, on Sunday, May 14, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. in the St. Landry Catholic Church. Reverend James Brady will celebrate the Mass. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held in the St. Landry Catholic Church from 1:00 p.m. until time of service. A rosary will be prayed at 1:30 p.m.
Mr. Martin, a resident of Opelousas, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Prompt Succor Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Martin served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Soileau Martin of Opelousas; his children, Catherine Martin Benson and husband, Wayne of Opelousas, Scott Martin and wife, Debbie of Opelousas, Joni Martin Fontenot and husband, Bryan of Lafayette, Laurie Martin Smith and husband, Scott of Houston, TX and Mark Martin of Eunice; step-children, Richard Davenport and wife, Marian of Opelousas and Toni Davenport Lorio and husband, Dr. Morgan of Bristoll, Tennessee; brother, Cecil Martin and wife, Connie of Seattle, Washington; sisters, Janice Elter of Lafayette, Lou Sonnier and husband, Bernard of Baton Rouge; half brothers and sisters, Allen Martin and wife, Ann of Lafayette, Jude Martin and wife, Mary Ann of Opelousas, Libby Sanders and husband, Steve of Georgia; grandchildren, Shawn Perry, Tyler Martin, Ellie Martin Saucier, Michael M. Martin, John Martin, Andre Fontenot, Elson D. Smith, Spencer M. Smith and Amelia M. Smith.
He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Margaret Vidrine Martin; parents, Murphy and Lucille Martin; sister, Juanita Melancon; brother-in-laws, Carl Elter and Mike Dupre.
